Former Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger (retired) has claimed that Bayern will not break the bank to sign Harry Kane (Tottenham).
“Kane would be a great signing for Bayern,” Schweinsteiger said in a video interview with British radio station TalkSPORT on Saturday (Aug. 6). He wants to win titles.”
Schweinsteiger, a former Bayern youth product who was a key first-team resource from 2002 to 2015, added: “Bayern will want to sign Kane,” and was convinced that the striker was on Bayern’s list.
However, Schweinsteiger doesn’t think the Bavarians are likely to make a move for Kane. “Bayern will not pay the transfer fee that Tottenham is asking for,” he said, based on past experience and examples.
According to German and English media outlets, Bayern made a €70 million ($99.1 million) bid for Tottenham last week. However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is adamant that he will not sell Kane for less than £100 million ($165.7 million), even with only one year left on his contract. That’s a difference of more than 60 billion won in Korean won 가입머니.
In a normal transfer saga, you have to raise the bidding to land a player, but Bayern are reportedly not planning to spend a huge amount of money on a player with a year left on his contract. Schweinsteiger seems to have made this point as well.
The Bavarians have never spent more than £100 million on a single player in their history. The club record is €80 million, which they spent to sign defender Luca Hernandez from Atletico Madrid in 2019.
However, Hernandez’s signing was ultimately a failure. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel is on the verge of letting Hernandez go this summer and signing ‘Iron Pillar’ Kim Min-jae (Napoli) on a free transfer. German media reported today that Kim will undergo a medical in Korea as soon as he is released from the Nonsan training center.
The most expensive striker in Bayern’s history is Mario Gomes. The Bavarians signed Gomes from Stuttgart 13 years ago in 2010 for €30 million. While Bayern have spent a lot of money on defense, midfielders, and wingers, they have not typically had a “panic buy” on strikers. Lewandowski, who has been instrumental in the club’s recent success, is a free agent.
Meanwhile, the British media is reporting that Tottenham are set to offer Kane a new contract with a significant increase in wages to keep him at the club.
A member of Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning squad, Schweinsteiger played for United from 2015 to 2017 before retiring in 2019 from the Chicago Fire in the United States.
