The break is over. Can Suwon Samsung turn things around at home?
Suwon Samsung, led by head coach Kim Byung-soo, will host Daegu FC in their Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 home match at Suwon World Cup Stadium on Sunday. 먹튀검증
There is nowhere to turn. Suwon is in 11th place with five wins, seven draws, and 17 losses (22 points) in 29 games this season. They are in the relegation zone. The 12th and lowest-placed team in K League 1 this season will be relegated to the second division. The 10th and 11th places will decide their fate in the promotion playoffs (PO) with K League 2.
A turnaround is urgently needed. The mood is not good. Suwon has faltered badly in their previous five games, scoring two goals and conceding eight. They’ve managed just one win, one draw, and three losses in that span. In particular, Suwon suffered two consecutive defeats before the A-Match break in September. They were hammered 0-4 away at Gwangju. In the “Super Match” against FC Seoul at home on September 2, the team went down 0-1. Suwon is now 3-0 in Super Matches this season. It’s a huge blow to their pride.
Injuries abound. Jang Ho-ik and Lee Sang-min are rehabbing from long-term injuries. Kwon Chang-hoon and Jung Seung-won are slow to recover. Acosti is also out with an adductor strain. Lee Ki-jae’s status with the national team is also a question mark. To make matters worse, Han Ho-kang was sent off in the last game. He will not be available for this match. Lee Jong-seong is also suspended for Daegu due to accumulating cautions. The good news is that Mullich and Vultuis have improved their form.
Suwon is 1-1 against Daegu this season. In the first meeting in April, they lost 0-1. In their second meeting in July, they drew 1-1 on an own goal. However, Suwon did manage a 1-0 victory over Daegu in the Korea Football Association (FA) Cup round of 16 in May. Kim Joo-chan, the youngest member of the team born in 2004, scored his professional debut goal to give Suwon the win.
Before the match against Daegu, Suwon energized themselves with an eel dinner. “A local sponsor organized a special event to support the team,” a club official explained. It will be interesting to see if the rejuvenated Suwon can pull off an upset at home.
