Son Heung-min (30, Tottenham)’s father, Son Woong-jeong, coach of the Son Soccer Academy, revealed the behind-the-scenes story of participating in the World Cup.
Director Sohn appeared on tvN’s entertainment program ‘You Quiz on the Block’, which is scheduled to air on the 14th, and said, “(My son) asked me to move up the surgery date as much as possible.” 토토 I really wanted to go (the World Cup),” he said.
He said, “Isn’t it a dream for soccer players to wear the Taegeuk mark on the left? I’ve told Heung-min several times. It’s an honor, the people expect it, and the fans want it.”
Son Heung-min suffered a facial fracture early last month when he hit his face against an opponent’s shoulder while competing for an aerial ball during a UEFA Champions League match. Son Heung-min, who underwent surgery in two days, was immersed in treatment and prepared for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Although medical findings required more than four weeks of rest and treatment, Son Heung-min wore a self-made face shield mask and went to the World Cup. Son Heung-min showed off his ‘mask fighting spirit’ by starting in all four matches, including three group matches and the round of 16.
In particular, in the match against Portugal in the third group stage match, he took the lead in advancing to the round of 16 by helping Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton)’s winning goal by breaking through a dribble close to 80m right before the end of the game in the crisis of 1-1 elimination, which must be won.
After the World Cup, Son Heung-min revealed that there was no early retirement from the national team, saying, “I will try to become a team that can move forward, not the end. I will only look forward and run.”
After completing the World Cup break, Son Heung-min prepares for the English Premier League (EPL) schedule, which will resume on the 26th, returning to England via Incheon International Airport tomorrow (13th).
